CAMPING INFO!
Many of you have asked about camping, the short answer is YES there will be camping. The location is one of two places. The location we used last year may be under construction. If it is we will move the camping spot to a park nearby, and still in riding distance of the venue. The city is asking for a donation for camping this year, please support that and show West Point some love! As we get a bit closer to race day keep an eye on the updates for the plan with camping. Again, we WILL HAVE CAMPING. We just have to vet which spot will be the right call closer to time.
Other than that just tell your friends to REGISTER! BikeReg predictor is expecting over 300 people. I hope that we hit 250! This is hands down one of the most fun events of the year, bring your friends, bring the fun, and we will see you soon.
See you soon,
Josh & LJ

It's almost time to race!
Race packet HERE. But first, read this info below!
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
- Crazy windy on Saturday. If you plan to pre-ride, this is at your own risk. It's going to be windy enough that we may postpone the trail run that is Saturday to 2PM Sunday... FYI. The park is open, and the trails are taped, but be smart. 30MPH winds are enough to bring some limbs down.
- We will likely not be doing packet pickup on Satruday because of the likely delay to the running race. PLAN TO PICK UP YOUR PACKETS MORNING OF THE RACE.
- Sunday is going to be perfect. 55-60°F, <10MPH wind, 0% chance of rain... We're racing Sunday and having a dang good time doing so. Trails should be dialed in too. This place does great with a tad bit of water a couple days before.
- Our local bike shop, The Spoke Easy, located on 610 S Columbia Ave, Campbellsville, KY is having a huge sale on bikes. 15-20% off on Saturday. Go by and check them out if you have some time!
- We will have food at the race. Pizza! If you had it at Ft. Duff, get ready cause they are back and ready to throw some dough!
- How we are doing points for the series will be announced sometime this weekend, or early next week. The two things to know this weekend are 1. If you win, you're in first for the overall at the time. 2. You can drop 1 race, if you skip a race, that is the same as dropping it. A cool note about hte points system, I hired a friend of mine who works for the UCI and directs a lot of the International UCI MTB and UCI MTB World Cups to make the system that we will be using. (Thanks Justin!)
Aside from all of that, we are excited to see all of you and ready to get this race going.
Best,
Josh Patton

BGMC Duffield Enduro Update!
Happy Friday!
It’s raining in West Point but that’s ok! Here is the plan as of now. This could change by Saturday morning so keep an eye on the emails/social media.
Practice is scheduled to start at 12PM Saturday. This will VERY LIKELY get delayed a few hours to aid with the trails drying before we get tires on them. We will still open up check-in at 12, and you can come hang out if you like. Just maybe not plan to be on the bike until 3PM or so. It is going to be windy, the KYMBA folks will make the call on that if it’s too unsafe to be in the woods due to wind. The upside, the wind helps to get the trails dialed in.
Worst case is that we delay practice on Saturday till later than 3PM, or we move the race start time Sunday back and have a few hours of practice then. It’s quick to get through the course, and as long as everyone doesn’t kill too much time chatting between stages this is completely doable.
We’re confident that the trails will be great come Sunday. We will be making the decisions on how to get to that point with the best possible conditions to race in mind. We ask that you be patient with us as we quiet literally “wait out the storm”.

STAGE NOTES:
Stage 1 starts behind/left of the changing station at the top. You will see the tape at the edge of the woods. This goes to burly man, then onto no ripcord. There are some small drops and tight turns, but mostly this is a pedal heavy stage.
Stage 2 you ride down the road, just above where Stage 1 began. You’ll turn right down a gravel road and cross Stage 1. Keep going down that gravel road and you’ll find the start. This is a difficult trail. The drop at the top will be closed. You’ll be taking what is labeled as “The Safe Decision.”
Stage 3 you transfer by going to the right from the top parking lot, play on the jumps/drops on the way down. This will merge with what is Stage 1 where Escalator comes up, keep going down what you raced as stage 1. We will have the tape changed so it leads you to 3/4 which turns left just past the overlook. Stage 3 will start off to the right on a trail called “Locals Only”. This trail is tight and fun. Be ready for a hard right towards the end of the stage.
To transfer out of stage 3, you will climb up to “Fern Gully” Climbers and Pro racers go right. Everyone else go left and that will take you to the campground. Follow the White tape tired around trees. Climbers, you will go these trails to the top: Fern Gully, Burning Tree, Lodge, Escalator. You’ll have some markings to get you going. You’ll double back and cross stages 1 & 2 a bit, so just stay aware incase anyone is coming your way.
Stage 4 you connect the same way that you did to Stage 3. You will see stage 3 on your right, with a sign to Stage 4 on the left. Go that direction and the start will be up a few hundred yards. A few drops, with flow in the middle and some fast PNW-ish flow to end the stage.
Blue tape means race course, White means transfer. Blue tape will line the 50+ feet before a stage start. You will see a sign that says “Stage Start Ahead” as soon as you pass that it’s go time. You’ll pass the timing computer up by signs. You’ll want to have your speed coming into the section.
Tape can mean intersections, caution area, and more. We also have tape before the Finish signs.

Hey Everyone! It’s race weekend and the forecast is looking great!
Saturday we will be starting out the weekend with the 5K & 10K at 9:00 AM. Things to know if you’re running:
MTB Racers
I know many of you will want to pre-ride. You can do so starting at 1PM on Saturday. The park will open back up then after we get things finished up with the run. Please, do not pull down and mess with any course tape. Also know the park is fully open at this time and people ay be out hiking, biking, etc. We will be putting some course tape up “last minute” so the locals that hike in the afternoon there don’t have to deal with (or accidentally damage). All of that said so when you pre ride and see a place where tape is down, know that we are getting it put back before Sunday morning. MTB things to know:
Safe travels and we will see you soon.

Hey Everyone! It’s race weekend and the forecast is looking great!
Saturday we will be starting out the weekend with the 5K & 10K at 9:00 AM. Things to know if you’re running:
- Pick up your bib at least 30 mins or more before race start. If you’re registering day of please do so 30 mins or more before race start.
- We will have a water station on course for both 5K & 10K, it’s a bit over 2 miles in. If you grab water from it throw the cup in the trashcan!
- Runners that podium please stick around for photos after the race, and your prizes.
- Everyone who finishes gets a medal after the race.
- Shirts are limited, we are out of medium and running short on smalls. If you’re getting this email you do have your size locked in. If you need to trade a size see us after the race and we will see what it’s looking like.
- All 5K and 10K runners start together. If you run <8:00 min pace please be towards the front of the group. <10:00 min pace to follow behind them. If you’re humble and start in the back when pass people early on do so safely and nicely.
- The trails do have a few places of technical running. We try to add a sign, blue tape, or a type of fencing to let you know that when you see that to pay attention. Most of it is mostly for the MTB crowd, but if it’s hard for them it may be hard for you. Things to know about markings:
- Always know that tape/signs/fencing means PAY ATTENTION. It’s a trail intersection, turn, or technical bit.
- If you go through tape, maybe because of a fall or slip, try and put it back before moving on with your race so others can have a safe event.
- A section of trail the locals call “West Virginia” is on the 10K loop. This is about 5.5 miles in. You will cross a creek then turn right when this section begins. Watch you step! It’s technical, slick in spots, and will change your pace up a good bit. While there, enjoy the lush beauty of the ferns, the valley beside you, and the beauty of the cedars in that area of trail.

- If you go through tape, try and put it back before moving on with your race so others can have a safe event.
- These trails are tight in spots. You’ll have some grass and forest vegetation on your ankles in spots, its quite beautiful. It’s old school single track that weaves in and out of the woods, get’s close to trees. Roots are plenty, and there are some jumps and drops. There are also “expert lines” beside easier lines. Be cautious of where and what you’re riding over and look before you leap. DO NOT EXPECT EVERYTHING TO BE “BLUE” TRAIL RATING. Old school trails sometimes me old school sketchy.
- If you are registering day of please do so 30 mins or more before the start of your race. If you’re CAT 3 please do so 45 mins or more before the start of your race.
- BRING YOUR NUMBER PLATE. We reuse your plate, this keeps things smooth on our end. If you don’t bring it a new one is $5.
- On Sunday a food truck will be there with wood fired pizza for you to chow down on after the race, it’s worth hanging around for!
Safe travels and we will see you soon.

Press Release: April 9th, 2022
Hey everyone!
We're just over 24 hours from starting the show! It rained on and off all day yesterday but the folks out riding said that it was great. They will have over 12 hours of drying time before the race start, we’re extremely optimistic that they will be great on Sunday.
If you're coming for shuttle/pre-ride day then you will have pockets of rain and maybe even snow. These look to be very spotty, and nothing sustained for long amounts of time. The course is partially marked but with some shuttle trails having riders on them today it is not fully marked as it would block some intersections. If you wait till later in the day to do the pre-ride then you will have a better chance at a fully marked course. I can’t put a time on that because of the pockets of rain changing our schedule for setup so often. You can also see a map and GPX file over on the events page on the website. We suggest downloading trailforks app for the best mapping as well to use when on the trails. The trailhead sign at the top of the mountain is also updated as of yesterday thanks to outstanding work of the locals.
BRING YOUR OWN REFILLABLE BOTTLE if you want to utilize any race coolers. We will not have disposable cups.
Please see yesterday’s news post about the info on points and teams.
If you have not downloaded the race packet yet you can do so at the link below. Also, follow along with us on social media to stay the most up to date.
See you all soon.

Press Release: April 8th, 2022
We're excited that race weekend is finally here. We've spent a bit of time grooming the trails and getting things squared away to make the course this weekend epic. If you're worried about rain (or snow) don't be. Snow is only looking to be at elevations over 3K, the highpoint on course which is the start/finish line is at 1,400. Rain is minimal in amounts. Crystal clear skies this morning as we write this update.
If you're coming for shuttle/pre-ride day then conditions look fine, you may just have a few pockets of rain. This is place is more fun with a little mud in the local’s opinion. So, join in on the fun!
Start line temps for the Cat 1 groups look to be just a bit under 40F. The Cat 2 and 3 groups looks to have a temp just over 50F when they start. Dress as needed. If you're in a category that does more than one lap you are more than welcome to throw clothing at the feed zone. Depending on volunteer status and capacity we may be able to get a clothing drop at the bottom of the climb as well. We expect that to be useful to the Cat 2/3 groups.
HERE you will find the BGMC SC Race Packet. This has some great info about what the weekend looks like and hopefully will answer a few questions for you. One thing not mentioned is that we will have coolers, but no cups/bottles. BRING YOUR OWN REFILLABLE BOTTLE if you want to utilize any race coolers.
In addition to the packet, we want to remind you that you can find all the updates you need on our social media pages, and on our website. On race day, the ability to update the website is limited, so we will be updating the facebook and instagram accounts for any announcements needed then.
The last announcement is about teams and points for the BGMC. The webpage has a lot of the info you need to know as we are keeping it short and sweet. Team registration is free, and we hope to see many of you all sign up for that. If you have questions just ask. Sign-ups for teams will be at registration.
See you all soon.

Sugacamp Mountain Weather Update
Many of you have reached out with concern about a rainy weekend, and if the race be canceled. Here is what we know at the moment…
We went out yesterday (Monday 4/4) and did some trail work leaf blowing and clearing the race loop. We covered about 2/3 of it and it is very, very dry. With that, all the rain forecasted for Tuesday 4/5 will soak right in, and be a good for the trails as they have two dry days to follow the rain with the high temp hitting 75°. The rain expected for Friday and Saturday is less than .20” each day. This is a pretty minimal amount and will likely make little to no difference concerning race day. The high for Sunday is looking to be 61° with a low of 46° and no rain.
All of that said….
As always, if you have any questions about anything send them over.

- These trails are rocky/gravely and sandy. They dry quick as the steep landscape helps the water wick away quickly. Many areas of the trail are great in a downpour, seriously. From the main trail steward: “I highly doubt any of it will be wet enough to notice.”
- The trail crew knows best. We are talking and working with the locals who built every mile of this trail system. We listen to their wisdom and if they have any concern about trail damage, safety, etc. We will acknowledge that and make decisions accordingly. They are very optimistic that the trails will be great.
- In the event of a cancellation we will find a make up weekend. When that will be we are not sure at the moment, but we have plenty of weekends to look at for a reschedule.
As always, if you have any questions about anything send them over.

A few changes for the series this year:
- There will be no trail race series. Formerly the trail racing was as a series. This year we are not going to do the trail running as a series, but still offer fun trail running events. The MTB races are still part of the series and will look at a points option.
- MTB Teams! More info to come on how this will work, but we are looking to have teams register and compete in the series this year to add a bit of fun competition.
- Slight price increase this year as our landed costs have seen a bit of an uptick. This will result in about 15% entry fee increase. Keep in mind, as the series grows so does the quality of the events. We’re excited to have you come race with us!
For now these are all the updates we have. Make sure to keep an eye on the website, as well as our social media, for when we post more!

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that this past weekend during the 5K trail run at Sugarcamp Mtn Trails we had a tragic situation take place. Sam Schaffer, 34, passed away while competing in this event.
Sam was one of the shining stars that made this race community and series what it is. Always smiling, Sam would walk to registration in the morning and thank us for hosting the event. His smile would grow as he approached the start line and you could see it all the way down the trail and still be spread across his face as he crossed the finish line, just like when he took first place at our Green River race. He was one of the many folks that made us love to host races, bring the community together, and all grow from the experiences we share out on the trail. Sam’s life was heavily focused on outdoor activities, and we’re glad to have given him a venue to pursue his passions.
Not having Sam at the next race(s) will be hard. We at BGMC are grieving that we lost such a valued member of our community this weekend. Our thoughts are with his family, his fiancé, and daughter. We can’t begin to understand what they are going through, and we ask that everyone be thinking of them in the weeks to come.
Out of respect for Sam’s family, at this time we have decided that the upcoming event at PC Park will also be postponed. We’re not ready to host another race yet as we grieve the loss we faced this weekend. It will be really hard to say “go” the next time we have everyone toe the line.
Please, be patient with us as we regroup moving forward. For now, join us in lifting up Sam’s family, and the legacy he leaves this outdoor community.

Press Release: January 15th, 2021
All,
BGMC has decided to not work with USA Cycling in the 2021 season. This decision comes from looking at the cost to the rider, organizer, and what we can do to best help our riders.
For 2021, Juniors get a free membership with USA Cycling. Which we fully support! The cost of a one-day license is only $5 with USAC, which allows for Cat2/3 racing in MTB. For a CAT 1 license you’re looking at the cost of a $100 membership. The gap is huge. While we understand some of the reasons behind it, we don’t think that our series and rider group will benefit from it this season.
We want our races to be inclusive to all. We’ve partnered with insurance groups that allow for affordable rates so we can drop our entry fees to a more affordable level and hopefully get as many folks as possible to the race. We also want the racing to be fair. We fear that if many of the riders opt for a one-day license and race CAT 2, when they should be a CAT 1, the field will be unbalanced and conflicts may arise. We don’t want that, but instead want a race that everyone can enjoy.
To all of those looking for USAC points, we are sorry. This was a goal of ours, but with the fees associated with having USAC for 2021, it just didn't add up. We’re looking out for the majority of our riders, and we want to create the best possible event for them. With that, we feel this is the best decision to make.
As always, hit us up with questions via the Contact page on the site.
Sincerely,
Josh Patton
BGMC Race Director
